Kids Advent Calendar: Day 7
This is the seventh day in my new kids advent calendar, An Experiment to Remember! We're using Christmas science activities to teach about Jesus!
Kids Advent Calendar
Lesson 7: Baptism
Supplies:
* 2 balloons
* water
* candle & lighter
* water
* candle & lighter
Step by Step Experiment:
1- Blow one balloon up and ask your kids what will happen if you put it in the flame. Then do it!
2- Fill the second balloon with water before you blow it up. The more water you can fit in it, the better!
3- Hold the second balloon over the flame and...be amazed! It didn't pop!
The Life of Jesus:
"Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him." -Matthew 3:13
Jesus was baptized as an example of righteousness. We are baptized as a symbol of our commitment to Him. That commitment allows His power in our lives. His power protects us from the influence of the devil, just like the water "protects" the balloon from the fire.
How have you felt the protection of God in your life?
How have you felt the protection of God in your life?
Science Explanation:
Water can hold a lot of heat because of the chemical bonds between water molecules. In this case, the heat from the candle passes through the balloon and is absorbed by the water. Soot is left on the balloon.
This is the lesson for Day 3 (of 25) in An Experiment to Remember, a kids advent calendar that uses science object lessons to discuss the life and teachings of Jesus.
