FREE DIY Dinosaur STEAM Summer Camp!!
Are you debating what to do with your kids this summer? At the start of every spring, we start looking at local summer camp options and discussing what kind of camp we should host. This year, those conversations were totally different!
There's a lot going on this year that isn't normally going on. Part of that craziness is that I wrote a book!! Of course I'm biased, but I think it's amazing!! It's a fantastic picture book with a fun rhythm, hilarious story, and characters that you can't help loving. AND, on top of all that, it introduces the rock cycle and geologic concepts like change through time. (If you haven't seen it yet, it's called A Dinosaur Made Me Sneeze, and you can check it out HERE.)
Anyway, it is only available in June. Then it will go to the printers, and then be available again later in the fall. So, to help celebrate the event I really wanted to host a Dinosaur STEAM Summer Camp in our community. But, due to some unusual global events, hosting a class is not really an option this summer. At all.
At first I was really disappointed. Then I realized...this may actually be an opportunity to share the summer camp with even more people! What if I digitized the camp?!!
Gosh, I wish I had thought of this a month ago!
So I feverishly began typing up the instructions that I would normally just speak, and making tutorials that I would normally just do in person. It took more time than I hoped, but it is now all organized and ready to use in a fantastic 40+ page pdf!! You can go through it at your own pace! Pick and choose the activities YOU want to do!
And what a pdf!! There are 5 days of lessons, moving through the Mesozoic Era (when the dinosaurs lived)! Each day has an introductory activity, an art project, a science or STEM activity or experiment, and a timeline activity.
I designed the "camp" for elementary aged kids, but I personally used it with my own crew, (which includes preschool, 2nd, 5th, and 8th graders). I just made a few slight modifications for my oldest and youngest, and we had a great time doing it together!
I debated selling it or sharing it for free. It was extremely time consuming, and if we had done it "in-person" I would have charged for kids to attend the camp. But I know there's a need for things like this right now, and I want to use it to celebrate my book too!
So I decided to offer it for free this summer to anyone who signs up for updates from Turtle Trails Publishing (my new small publishing company--someday I'll have to tell you all about that!). I would be thrilled if you happen to see this while A Dinosaur Made Me Sneeze is still available and you ordered a copy, but if you're not interested in that you can still download the Dinosaur STEAM Camp...and you will LOVE it!!!
And now you don't have to debate what to do with your kids this summer anymore -- this camp is all planned out! You just need to enjoy the fun! 💖
